Puffy eyes can occur for numerous reasons, according to a research study published in the "International Journal of Cosmetic Science," and may include poor sleep habits or allergies. Although makeup concealer or similar products can cosmetically help, they don't fix the actual puffiness. Thankfully, several over-the-counter eye creams are designed to help de-puff and brighten your eye area.

Boots No7 Protect & Perfect Eye Cream

Skincare expert Paula Begoun reports that Boots' eye cream is designed to reduce eye puffiness as well as limit the severity of dark under-eye circles. She says it contains nourishing antioxidants, skin-soothing emollients and potentially wrinkle-fighting peptides to help improve the overall health and appearance of the eye region.

Clinique All About Eyes

"Allure" magazine's 2010 beauty awards highlight Clinique's eye treatment as one of the best creams for tightening the skin with anti-puffing ingredients like caffeine. The magazine also liked the cream's use of cosmetic pigments, which help to immediately disguise imperfections like fine lines or dark circles. Additional skin-soothing ingredients include wheat extract, antioxidant-rich grape extract, whey protein and vitamin E.

Bobbi Brown Extra Eye Repair Cream

In its 2010 health beauty awards, "Self" magazine's editors chose Bobbi Brown's eye skin-repairing cream as the top way to manage eye area problems like puffiness and wrinkles. Editors specifically liked its combination of moisturizing ingredients and peptides. Additional potentially beneficial ingredients include petroleum, which re-establishes the natural moisture barrier that helps protects your skin.

Olay Regenerist Eye Lifting Serum

Begoun tested and praised Olay's eye-tightening and eye-lifting serum, finding its efficacy effective and saying it's made with "state of the art" ingredients. She says that it helps firm up and reduce inflammation with several anti-irritants, plus skin-repairing and skin-conditioning ingredients like niacinamide and wrinkle-fighting antioxidants. Because it contains no fragrances, sensitive skin users don't have to worry about it causing more irritation that increases puffiness, Begoun adds.
