Diazepam is a medication in a class of drugs known as benzodiazepines. Insomnia and Nightmares
Some patients taking diazepam may experience insomnia and nightmares. Insomnia that becomes bothersome should be brought to the attention of a doctor, who may prescribe also prescribe a medication for the occasional relief of insomnia.
Muscle Weakness and Fatigue
Diazepam may cause muscle weakness and fatigue. Muscle weakness may lead to a lack of balance and coordination. Muscle twitching or tremors may be a sign of a serious reaction to diazepam and should be reported to a physician, says Drugs.com.
Dependance and Tolerance
Diazepam may be habit-forming and should be used only by prescription. It may lead to dependence, which occurs when body needs the medication in order to function. Increased tolerance can develop if diazepam is taken for an extended period of time. According to MedlinePlus, patients should not take diazepam for more than four months or stop taking this medication without first speaking to their doctor.
