Herbal Slim is one of many weight management supplements that promises fast, safe and effective weight loss. The supplement's manufacturer stresses that the all natural ingredients in Herbal Slim make it a superior weight loss product that isn't dangerous. However, some of the ingredients in Herbal Slim do have negative side effects associated with their use. In order to determine whether Herbal Slim is right for you, talk to your doctor about the potential hazards and research the ingredients before using Herbal Slim.

Irregular Heartbeat

While Herbal Slim does not contain a lot of harsh stimulants like other weight loss products, it may still cause interruptions in your normal heart beat. This is because Herbal Slim contains Siberian Eleuthero, also known as Siberian Ginseng. According to the Memorial Sloan-Kittering Cancer Center, this ingredient may cause a number of side effects, one of the most serious being tachycardia, or irregular heartbeat. As the Mayo Clinic explains, the consequences of tachycardia can range from bothersome to life-threatening.

Diarrhea and Frequent Urination

One of the ways Herbal Slim helps to slim you down is through its diuretic ingredients, including dandelion root, licorice root and burdock root. Diuretics help to flush water out of your system, which helps you lose weight--temporarily--and increases muscular definition. However, too much of a diuretic effect may cause frequent urination or diarrhea. The website Vitamins & Health Supplements Guide notes that burdock is known to increase the diuretic effects of licorice. These ingredients, combined with dandelion, which is also a diuretic, may spur increased excretion; the website Personal Health Zone notes that licorice alone may cause diarrhea.

Upset Stomach

Eating different foods because you are on a weight-loss diet may cause upset stomach in itself. In addition, the health website Personal Health Zone notes that licorice, a key ingredient in Herbal Slim, may cause upset stomach and diarrhea. You should discontinue use of Herbal Slim if you experience this or other side effects. You should also note that licorice root may cause side effects even if you can eat licorice candy without a problem.

Headache

Another side effect you may experience from using Herbal Slim is headaches. This is because at least two ingredients in Herbal Slim are known to cause headaches. The Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center explains that headaches may be caused by Siberian Eleuthero. In addition the website Personal Health Zone lists headaches as a side effect of licorice root.
