Whether it's caused by cold and dry weather or medical conditions, dry skin can affect your entire body. Because it can affect the look of your skin as well as be a source of constant irritation, dry skin is a problem that needs to be addressed promptly. With a few changes to your daily routine you can effectively eliminate dry skin and return your skin to its healthy state.
Step 1
Apply lotion to your skin several times throughout the day to help replenish lost moisture and eliminate dry skin quickly. Avoid lotions that are scented and contain alcohols as these will only do more harm than good. Also apply lotion to your skin before you go to bed each night and after you bathe.
Step 2
Keep a humidifier in your home to help keep the air from getting too dry. Keep a humidifier in your bedroom while you sleep.
Step 3
Bathe only as needed and no more than once daily. Use a mild moisturizing soap making sure to avoid any soaps that contain any harsh chemicals, exfoliating beads, and fragrances. Wash yourself with lukewarm water and limit your bathing to 10 to 15 minutes. Pat your skin dry with a soft absorbent dry towel and avoid vigorous rubbing as this can irritate your skin.
Step 4
Protect yourself from the elements by applying an oil-based sunscreen to your skin before you go out into the sunshine or by bundling up with a coat, scarf and gloves to protect yourself from cold winter air
Step 5
Keep your body hydrated by drinking plenty of water and avoid excessive caffeine and alcohol which can dehydrate your body, robbing your skin of necessary moisture.
