A popular warm-weather activity, camping provides you with fresh air and an appreciation for nature. Though you may lack modern amenities such as microwaves and ovens, your outdoor excursion does not need to lack great tasting food. You can easily cook biscuits, omelets, pizza and a variety of s'mores over your campfire or with your camp stove in just a few minutes.
Biscuits
Place your favorite biscuit recipe or mix in a large resealable plastic bag and bring it on your next camp-out for some quick and versatile biscuits. When camping, just add the necessary water to the bag, seal it and knead with your hands until the mixture reaches the correct consistency. Make a hole in the bottom of the bag and squeeze the mixture through the hole and into your pan and cook until golden brown. Add cheese and sausage to make breakfast biscuits, or use as a side dish for lunch or dinner.
Omelets
Place a pan of water on your camp stove or over the fire to boil. Meanwhile, crack three eggs and place them in a resealable plastic bag. Add two cut-up links of sausage, shredded cheese and salsa to the bag as well and close, squeezing out excess air. Knead the bag to mix the ingredients together and place the bag in the boiling water. Cook for 15 minutes and remove the bag from the water carefully. Open the bag and empty the omelet onto your plate for a delicious breakfast meal.
Pita Pizzas
Spread a light layer of oil onto aluminum foil in preparation for cooking your pita pizzas. Cover pita bread with pizza sauce and add desired vegetables or pepperoni. Cover the pita and toppings with grated cheese and grill on the oiled foil for 5 minutes or until cheese melts. Pita bread has a pocket that can be used for inserting the pizza ingredients as well. Simply place the sauce and all desired toppings into the pocket and grill on the foil until the cheese melts.
S'mores Variations
S'mores, a classic camping snack, do not need to contain only the classic ingredients of chocolate, marshmallow and graham crackers. Add variety to this family favorite by spreading peanut butter onto the graham crackers before sandwiching the fire-roasted marshmallow between two pieces of chocolate and the crackers or use chocolate-covered graham crackers instead of the traditional crackers. For a minty variety, use thin chocolate mints instead of the plain chocolate, or if you would rather lose the graham crackers entirely, place the marshmallow between two chocolate-covered biscuits or cookies instead.
