The University of Maryland Medical Center reports that deposits of fat just below the surface of your skin are the underlying cause of the dimpled, bumpy look attributed to cellulite. Approximately 85 percent of women have cellulite, reports skin care expert Paula Begoun. Cellulite may keep you from enjoying your favorite leg-baring clothing, such as a swimsuit. Whether you're getting ready for the summer season or want firmer skin all year round, several anti-cellulite products available in drugstores and department stores can help to tighten your skin surface.
Clarins Body Shaping Supplement
Begoun tested Clarins' anti-cellulite skin care treatment and says it's aimed at diminishing surface fat deposits for less severe cellulite. She reports that it's designed to be added to your regular body moisturizer. Active ingredients include several herbal extracts intended to improve surface circulation, such as guarana extract, as well as skin-tightening caffeine.
Nivea Good-Bye Cellulite Fast Acting Serum
The health editors of "Shape" magazine loved Nivea's anti-cellulite skin serum, naming it one of the best cellulite treatments on the market. In what the magazine calls a cellulite "secret weapon," amino acids like L-carnitine help stimulate the production of collagen in your skin. This may help firm up your skin, as a lack of collagen contributes to poor firmness and sagging. Additional beneficial ingredients include skin-plumping emollients and lotus extract.
Bliss FatGirlSleep
Bliss' wittily named anti-cellulite cream is one of the best topical creams for cellulite, according to "Health" magazine's editors. Dr. Bruce Katz, a dermatologist reviewing the Bliss product for "Health," says the cream's retinol can temporarily lessen the bulges of your cellulite. Additional beneficial ingredients include antioxidant-rich tea extract, skin-firming shea butter and soothing lavender extract.
Bliss Slimulator
Regular massaging helps even out your cellulite by improving circulation and helping prevent fluid retention that gives cellulite its characteristic lumps, according to Dr. Howard Sobel, a dermatologist writing for "Self" magazine. The magazine recommends Bliss' anti-cellulite skin massager as the best skin massager for cellulite. It's made with gentle rubber points and can be used alone or with your favorite anti-cellulite cream.
