According to the website Naturopathica, clinical studies have demonstrated that hydroxy acids can effectively improve the appearance of skin wrinkles, and increase skin's moisture, elasticity and tone. Alpha and beta hydroxy acids are the two types of hydroxy acids, abbreviated as AHAs and BHAs, respectively. Many cosmetics and skin creams contain both alpha and beta hydroxy acids.

Earth Science

Earth Science’s A/B Hydroxy Acid Night Rejuvenator contains 10 percent AHA/BHA. It also contains ginseng, green tea extract and phospholipid liposomes.

Cellex-C BetaPlex

Cellex-C BetaPlex New Complexion Cream contains both alpha and beta hydroxy acids. The AHA/BHA concentration of this product is 10 percent. It also contains evening primrose oil, aloe and chamomile. According to the University of Maryland Medical Center, evening primrose oil is rich in omega-6 fatty acids which can aggravate seizure disorders when taken orally. Phenothiazines, anticoagulants and blood-thinning herbs can also be affected by evening primrose oil. Talk with your doctor about whether or not dermal applications of products containing evening primrose oil are safe for you.

Skin Medica Aesthetics

The face cream made by this company contains 15 percent AHA/BHA. This is higher than the FDA recommended amount of 10 percent limit for over-the-counter preparations. Discuss using this and all AHA/BHA containing cosmetics or lotions with your doctor.
