The Campaign for Safe Cosmetics report that 56 percent of beauty care products contain penetration enhancers that deliver impurities deep within the skin. For acne sufferers, irritants that increase inflammation or swelling exacerbate blemishes, and cause persistent breakouts and undue emotional stress. Utilizing homemade skin products composed of natural ingredients can reduce the appearance of acne without the harsh effects of chemicals found in many commercial products. Always seek the advice of your dermatologist before beginning a new skin care program.

Oatmeal Exfoliator

Step 1

Combine 1/2 cup of organic oatmeal with 1 tbsp. organic whole milk and 1 tbsp. of natural yogurt in a bowl. Oatmeal contains calming and anti-inflammatory properties helpful in quelling acne flare-ups, states the RN Guide to Skin Care. Milk contains antimicrobial properties that eliminates acne-causing impurities while softening toughened skin for supple skin, reports the Organic Facts website. Plain yogurt is rich in zinc that shrinks pores and blemishes, and is helpful in reducing pimples such as blackheads, whiteheads or red lesions, reports the Daily Glow website.

Step 2

Mix the ingredients until the oatmeal is uniformly wet. Apply to the face in upward, circular strokes to lift away dirt and associated impurities.

Step 3

Rinse with warm water and pat the face dry. This cleanser is safe to use daily in the morning and before bedtime. The American Academy of Dermatology recommends that individuals with acne-prone dry skin to wash their face once a day, while those with acne-prone oily skin to cleanse up to three times a day to prevent breakouts.

Weekly Face Mask for All Acne-prone Skin Types

Step 1

Gather 1/2 tsp. natural sea salt, 2 egg whites, 4 tbsp. organic whole milk and 1 tbsp. honey. Sea salt helps to reduce the appearance of skin lesions, reduce pore size and acts as an anti-inflammatory. Egg whites deliver firmer-looking skin, and reduce redness and swelling while promoting fewer breakouts and smaller pores. The combination of milk and honey moisturizes, cleanses and enhances the appearance of the skin, according to the Organic Facts website.

Step 2

Whisk the egg whites and milk together in a bowl. Add in the sea salt and honey until all the ingredients are evenly distributed. Apply directly to the face in a thin layer using a cotton pad or a paintbrush.

Step 3

Rinse with lukewarm water followed by a cold-water rinse to close the pores. Use this mask once a week after your daily skin care regimen.
