While most skin problems such as blackheads, whiteheads and pimples are not dangerous to the body, they can be uncomfortable and unsightly. Luckily, there are some home remedies specifically tailored to dark skin that can help to clear up your complexion. However, these remedies have not been approved by the FDA, so talk with your doctor before starting any new treatment on yourself, even if it seems harmless.
Raw Potato and Whole Milk for Blemishes and Minor Scars
According to Julie Gabriel, author of "The Green Beauty Guide: Your Essential Resource to Organic and Natural Skin Care, Hair Care, Makeup, and Fragrances,” a mixture of raw potato and whole milk can help to reduce the appearance of blemishes and minor scars on dark skin. To make and use this mixture, combine 1 tbsp. chopped raw potato with ½ tbsp. whole milk in a blender or food processor and puree on high speed for 10 to 15 seconds or until a thin paste is formed. Gently massage the paste onto the affected area and leave it on for 15 to 20 minutes or until almost dry. Rinse the skin with cool water and wash with a gentle cleanser. Pat the skin dry and apply your regular moisturizer if you use one. This treatment can be repeated daily as long as it does not irritate your skin.
Lime Essential Oil, Rosemary Essential Oil and Jojoba Oil for Acne and Pimples
According to Ann Worwood, author of "The Complete Book of Essential Oils and Aromatherapy,” a mixture of lime essential oil, rosemary essential oil and jojoba oil can be applied to dark skin as a topical treatment for acne and pimples. To make and use this mixture, combine ½ tsp. lime essential oil, ½ tsp. rosemary essential oil and 8 tsp. jojoba oil in a small container and shake or stir to combine the ingredients. Gently massage a thin layer of the mixture onto the skin and leave it on for 30 minutes. Rinse the skin with cool water and wash with a gentle soap before applying your regular moisturizer. This treatment can be repeated daily unless it bothers your skin. Unused portions of the mixture can be kept in a cool, dark place for up to four weeks.
Tomato Essential Oil, Cucumber Essential Oil and Avocado Oil for Blackheads
According to Ann Worwood, a mixture of tomato essential oil, cucumber essential oil and avocado oil can be combined to make a mixture that can help combat blackheads on dark skin. To make and use this mixture, combine 1 tsp. tomato essential oil, ½ tsp. cucumber essential oil and 5 tbsp. avocado oil in a small jar or container and shake or stir to combine. Gently massage a small amount of this mixture onto the skin and leave it on for 20 minutes or until almost completely dry. Rinse the skin with cool, clean water and wash with a gentle cleanser before applying your regular moisturizer. This treatment can be repeated daily as long as you do not notice any sort of irritation. Unused portions of the mixture can be kept for one month in a cool, dark place.
