In 1995, Dr. Katie Rodan and Dr. Kathy Fields developed the Proactiv 3-step Acne Treatment system. The idea, according to the dermatologists, was to help those without insurance or access to dermatologists get a acne plan that was accessible to them. The system consisted of using a Renewing Cleanser, then a Revitalizer Toner and finally a Repairing Treatment. Since that time the dermatologists have added additional products for those on the Proactiv treatment plan. One of those products is the Advanced Blemish Treatment.

Explanation

Once you have purchased the Proactiv System and are an ActivMember, you can purchase the Advanced Blemish Treatment. It comes in three small tubes and has a high concentration of acne clearing benzoyl peroxide, which is meant to heal pimples quickly. The Advanced Blemish Treatment is also formulated so it is invisible and soothing, not rough, on the skin

Directions

To use the Proactiv Advanced Blemish Treatment you must first clean your skin with the Proactiv Cleanser. Then, apply a thin layer on the pimple or area of acne. Repeat this procedure up to three times a day, limiting if the skin appears to dry or begins to peel. Apply a sunscreen on top of the blemish cream if you are going outside.

Main Ingredient

The main ingredient in Proactiv’s Advanced Blemish Treatment is 6 percent benzoyl peroxide. According to the National Institute of Health’s Medline Plus, benzoyl peroxide is used to treat mild or moderate acne that is available in liquid, lotion, gel or cream form. Medline Plus notes that it could take four to six weeks for the effects of benzoyl peroxide to be fully noticeable.

Additional Ingredients

In addition to benzoyl peroxide, there are other ingredients in the Advanced Blemish Treatment by Proactiv that may help clear up acne. They are: cyclopentasiloxane, ethoxydigylcol, steareth-2, methylpropanediol, steareth-21, cyclohexasiloxane, propylene glycol, polyquaternium-37, propylene glycol, PPG-1 trideceth-6, dicaprylate/dicaprate, allantoin, panthenol, methylparaben, diazolidinyl urea and propylparaben. Water and fragrance are also used in the lotion.

Warning

The drying effect of Proactiv Advanced Blemish Treatment will be increased if it is used before or soon after another product with benzoyl peroxide. If irritation of the skin occurs, do not continue treatment without the direction of a health care professional. This medicated lotion is not recommended for use by those with sensitive skin unless recommended by a doctor. Keep the Advanced Blemish Treatment away from mouth, eyes and lips.
