South San Francisco is rich with cultural and culinary diversity. Beautiful neighborhoods and a vibrant nightlife make this region a popular tourist destination. South San Francisco is home to many events and activities that attract both locals and visitors alike. Events such as the San Francisco Theater Festival and attractions such as Fisherman’s Wharf are sure to be crowd pleasers. Whether you are in town for a day or are a lifelong resident, there are always things to do in South San Francisco.

Kite-boarding

South San Francisco is a popular location for participating in water activities. Kite-boarding is a sport that combines parasailing with surfing. Kite-boarders ride a surfboard while connected to a large kite. Similar to surfing, there are several levels of riders and depending on the amount of experience you have, you can do transitions, jumps and freestyle moves. Oyster Point Park in South San Francisco is a popular kite-boarding location. Lessons and events for both novice and expert kite-boarders are offered there.

Museums and Attractions

South San Francisco has several museums and attractions to help fill your itinerary. The Wax Museum at Fisherman’s Wharf has a wide variety of celebrities, designer costumes and props within a 100,000-square-foot complex. The Exploratorium is a “hands-on” museum that allows patrons to touch and intermingle with the exhibits and displays. For instance, guests can learn about ancient symbols and petroglyphs and then have the opportunity to create their own. Additional attractions such as history, art, and science museums are also accessible to meet the varying desires of South San Francisco visitors.

For travelers who love to be outside, South San Francisco has many options for outdoor activities. Visitors can take advantage of outdoor adventure tours that offer day and overnight trips to camping and wine country locations just outside of South San Francisco. Green Tortoise Adventure Travel offers day trips in and around the Bay Area with hiking and camping adventures to Samuel P. Taylor Park. Incredible Adventures Tour Company offers small and large group tours to several locations including Yosemite National Park, Muir Woods and Napa Valley. There are also several bicycle rental locations that offer bike tours and rides alongside the South San Francisco beachfront.

South San Francisco has a vast selection of dining options that are sure to please a variety of restaurant-goers. Culinary options include world cuisine such as Mediterranean, Asian and Mexican foods. Health food enthusiasts have their choice of vegetarian, vegan and raw-food dishes offered at a variety of restaurants and shops. Located on Linden Avenue in South San Francisco, Restaurante Mazatlan offers an assortment of Latin dishes including seafood, salads and vegetarian meals. Peet’s Coffe and Tea Shop on Grand Avenue in South San Francisco offers a mix of herbal and organic tea choices as well as signature specialty coffees from around the world.

Beach

The South San Francisco coastline offers beach-goers miles of sand and surf. Oyster Point Marina is a recreational complex that provides visitors a location to fish, swim and yacht. Travelers can participate in many different beach and water activities as well as camp and hike in the area. South San Francisco’s Moss Beach is a 3-mile reserve that has tide pools and a variety of local marine life. The beach is popular for diving and also offers hiking trails and other activities.
