A day at the beach can give little girls a chance to indulge in princess fairy tales or build the sand castle palaces of their dreams. Other activities, such as flirting with ocean waves and exploring seashells, can also help keep girls occupied on their trip to the shore. Encourage safe, imaginative play with activities such as hosting tea parties and making sand castles.

Build Sand Castles

Most little girls love princesses and castles. There is no better place than the beach for your daughter to build a royal castle for her favorite princess. Bring her favorite waterproof dolls or princesses to the beach and encourage her to build special rooms in the palace just for her royal friends. Take pictures of the dolls in their castles, and when you get home, develop the film or print the pictures. Hang the pictures in your daughter’s dollhouse or castle as a decorative reminder of the princess shore vacation.

Creative Kids at Home suggests using wet sand to help your little girl’s towers and turrets stay in place.

Create Sand Sculptures

The website Youth Work Practice suggests creating sand figures as a great beach activity. Your daughter can try to build a sand sculpture of her favorite princess, movie character or mermaid. If you have several girls building sculptures, turn it into a contest and judge who created the most realistic or creative piece of sand art. Give appropriate prizes like seashell jewelry or salt water taffy.

Craft Seashell Jewelry

Activity Village suggests combing the shore for shells that have holes naturally pierced in them. When your little girl finds one, tuck it away in a safe place. When you get home, weave a piece of string through the shell so she has a necklace as a souvenir of her day at the beach. Try finding several shells to add to the necklace or to make matching bracelets or gifts for your daughter's friends.

Host an Oceanside Tea Party

This beach game for girls involves a little preparation. You will need to pack a blanket, a tea set, clothes and accessories your little girl would wear to a tea party and some snacks and drinks. Spread out the blanket and prepare an oceanside tea party picnic for your daughter and her friends. They may want to wear large straw hats which double as protection from the sun, white gloves and boas over their swimsuits. Pour some ice cold water or juice into a tea pot and let them serve each other pretend tea. Give them each a little snack to accompany their beverage. The girls will have a royal time sipping “tea” and acting fancy as the waves roll in.
