Age spots are pigment changes in your skin resulting from excessive melanin production. They are generally small brown spots and are commonly found on the neck, face and back. The spots are generally associated with old age, but they arise from prolonged exposure to the sun or from prolonged tenure of disease and sickness. Minimizing the appearance of age spots takes time, but a simple trip to the pantry might help.

Red Onion and Apple Cider Vinegar

Red onions possess the same kind of acid that fresh lemon juice does, so it can help to fade age spots, says the Organic Facts website. Chop up a red onion and place it in the food processor or blender until mushy. Strain the onion to get the juice using a cheese cloth. Then, measure the amount of juice and add equal parts of apple cider vinegar. Mix completely, apply to the age spot and allow to sit for an hour. You can also simply rub a slice of red onion on the age spots.

Tomato Juice and Buttermilk

A tomato juice and buttermilk mixture is one of the more important methods for spot removal and yields encouraging results, says morphemeremedies.com. Prepare the mixture by combining two teaspoons of tomato juice with four tablespoons of buttermilk. Apply to the area, leave on for half an hour and wash off. Grandmas Home Remedies says some achieve results by dabbing only buttermilk on the area.

Apple Cider Vinegar and Orange Juice

Apple cider vinegar and orange juice is known as one of the more common and more useful mixtures for age spot removal. Combine a half spoon of apple cider vinegar to two to three teaspoons of orange juice. Apply the mixture to the age spots for a month for promising results. You can also use apple cider vinegar by itself by adding a few drops to a glass of water and drinking it. Add honey for taste, Natural Facts advises.

Lemon Juice

Lemon is a natural toner and is known as one of the most effective skin cleansers, according to skinwhitening.org. It also acts as a natural bleaching method. To use, apply lemon juice to age spots twice daily using a cotton ball and leave on for as long as you feel comfortable. You will begin to see age spots disappear at six to eight weeks, though times vary. You can also use lemon juice in a mixture, combining ½ teaspoon of the fresh juice with one teaspoon graded horseradish root, ½ teaspoon vinegar and 3 drops rosemary essential oil. Apply in the same manner.

Warning

You may experience skin irritation by applying some of these products. Also, while age spots are generally harmless cosmetic issues, some in advanced stages can lead to skin cancer. Serious cases can also be associated with poor diet, poor liver function and nutritional deficiency. Check with a doctor about your age spots and methods for removal.
