Child carriers provide a way to safely and conveniently bring your child with you when you travel about on your bicycle. These devices are composed of a sling seat built into a small trailer, with a canopy attached to help protect the child from the elements. The process of assembling and installing a child carrier is very straightforward; many of the components are designed to simply snap into place. However, before you can safely use the trailer, you first must bolt it onto the rear of your bicycle.
Carrier Assembly
Step 1
Lift the sides of the trailer upward until each side is completely unfolded. Lift the crossbar attached to the end of the sling seat, located on the floor of the trailer.
Step 2
Insert the ends of the crossbar into the slots located at the top of each side of the trailer. Push down on the crossbar until it is securely in place.
Step 3
Grip the adjustment straps, located under the front edge of the sling seat. Pull the end of the straps until the seat reaches the desired amount of tension.
Step 4
Drape the canopy over the top of the bike trailer. Locate the snaps attached to the ends of the canopy. Attach the snaps to the matching connectors located on the sides of the trailer.
Step 5
Hook the rear strap onto the loops located on the rear of the canopy. Tighten the rear and side straps.
Step 6
Insert the wheels into the brackets on the trailer. If your wheels come equipped with quick release levers, open the lever and loosen the nut on the opposite end of the axle; fit the wheel into the bracket, then tighten the nut and close the lever. Pull on the wheels to confirm they are properly secured.
Carrier Attachment
Step 1
Remove the hub nut and washer from the rear wheel of your bicycle. Place the tab washer over the axle, then install the coupler plate over the washer.
Step 2
Align the plate so that the large hole is located below the axle. Place the previously removed hub nut and washer back onto the axle; tighten the nut securely.
Step 3
Insert the end of the tow bar into the hole on the coupler plate. Pass the quick-release pin through the holes in the coupler plate and tow bar. Insert the end of the quick-release pin through the attached fastener.
Step 4
Pass the safety strap through the rear of the bicycle frame. Hook the end of the strap to the “D” ring attached to the tow bar. Install the safety flag into the sleeve attached to the rear of the trailer canopy.
