Dry hair can be the result of any number of causes, such as chemical processing, harsh shampoo, washing too often, sun damage and exposure to other environmental elements. Hair loss may be the result of breakage from the hair being dry, or it may be caused by other factors, including medications, heredity or a medical condition, according to the Mayo Clinic website. Before using a home remedy, discuss your hair concerns with your doctor to rule out a serious condition that needs medical attention.
Apple Cider Vinegar
The Granny Med website recommends using apple cider vinegar to help bring back your hair's shine and reduce the appearance of dryness. Vinegar is a natural cleanser that washes away product and dirt buildup. Shampoo your hair first. Mix 1/3 cup vinegar with a quart of water and pour it over your hair. The slight vinegar smell will fade and leave your hair shiny and healthy looking.
Olive Oil
Olive oil is a natural ingredient that's easy to use, and it seals the hair, leaving it smoother-looking and less susceptible to the elements. Warm approximately 1/2 cup olive oil, then apply it to your hair, starting at the ends. Wrap your hair with plastic wrap or cover your head with a plastic shower cap. Leave it on for approximately 30 minutes to allow it to penetrate the hair shaft. Shampoo your hair and condition it as usual.
Egg Yolk
Egg yolk contains healthy fats that can add shine to your hair. Mix one egg yolk with 2 tbsp. water and apply it to your hair. Leave it on for approximately 15 minutes. You may wrap it with plastic wrap or cover it with a plastic shower cap to enhance its effectiveness. Rinse the egg yolk solution with cold water.
Lemon and Coconut
Try a lemon juice and coconut oil treatment, says the Home Remedies Guide website. Mix the juice of one lemon and banyan tree root powder, then use it to wash your hair. After your final rinsing, massage 1 tbsp. coconut oil into your scalp.
Pepper and Lemon Seeds
The Home Remedies Guide recommends using a pepper and lemon seed paste to help prevent hair loss. Grind 1 tbsp. black pepper and 1 tbsp. lemon seed. Mix them with just enough water to make a thin paste. Apply this paste to your scalp and leave it on for approximately 15 minutes. Rinse it off with cold water.
