Cincinnati was founded in the late 1700s along the Ohio River and is close to both Indiana and Kentucky. The city is considered the birthplace of professional baseball and as such thrives on a rich sporting heritage. But Cincinnati is not a city merely for spectators. Cincinnati gets its citizens active thanks to its Bicycle Transportation Program that encourages traveling by two wheels instead of four. This active city has many more options to get moving and have a good time, and in fact is in an area considered "America's Largest Playground"--a 30-mile radius where fun is never more than a few minutes away.
Indoor Adventures
Not only can you check out museums honoring America's favorite game, but you also can get involved in the fun. There are popular indoor laser tag facilities that bring out the kid at play. Thundering music underscores your mission as you seek to destroy outposts and tag your opponents for the high score.
Outdoor Adventures
When it comes to enjoying the great outdoors, Cincinnati amps up the fun. There are a couple of options for zip line adventures, some that marry this exhilarating outdoor activity with leadership training and ecological appreciation. See the sights even higher when you climb into a hot air balloon that take you high above rolling green fields, farms and woodlands.
Parks and Recreation
Cincinnati has five regional parks and 70 neighborhood parks. With an additional 34 nature preserves, there are plenty of options to get outside and have fun. In Little Miami Scenic Park, rent a bike or skates and explore the Loveland Bike Trails, or hit the river to kayak, canoe, raft or tube. You can even picnic on top of a castle.
Adrenaline Rush
Cincinnati is racing-friendly, and that includes everything from NASCAR to horse racing, motorcycle racing and triathlons. If you're tired of being a spectator and are ready to get into the driver's seat, head over to Competition Racing. This is high-speed kart racing on an indoor track for individuals 10 years old and up. Drivers are just inches from the ground as they rev up to 35 mph on a 950-foot track.
Out of the Ordinary
Home of the Flying Pig Marathon and the offbeat Cincinnati Drag Races, Cincinnati offers adventures off the beaten path. If you're looking for a more unusual experience, take classes with Tree Climbers, a group that emphasizes fun and safety with their canopy tours. During this 2 1/2-hour tree-climbing experience, you can hang like a bat, crawl around like Spider-Man or relax in a high-hanging hammock.
