Using a treadmill is an excellent way to improve your overall physical fitness. Depending on your fitness level, you can adjust your treadmill to perform a program of walking or running that can help you reach your ideal body weight and maintain a healthy cardiovascular system. You can be on your way to reaching your fitness goals with just the push of a few buttons on your treadmill’s console.

Step 1

Plug your treadmill into a power outlet and turn it on.

Step 2

Step onto your treadmill’s walking belt and insert the safety key into the slot. Attach the clip on the free end of the safety key’s rope or chain to your clothing.

Step 3

Select a preset workout by pushing the appropriately labeled button on the console. If you wish to start the treadmill in manual mode, press the “Quick Start” button or select “Manual” from the list of available workouts. Depending on the make and model of your treadmill, you might have to use the arrow buttons to scroll through the available workouts; refer to your treadmill’s user guide if you are unsure how to view your treadmill’s available workouts.

Step 4

Press the "Start" or "Enter" button to start the walking belt.

Step 5

Adjust the speed or incline as necessary with the appropriately labeled up or down arrow keys on your console.
