Acne is an embarrassing yet common skin condition which is most often caused by bacteria on the skin, excess oil in the glands or hormonal fluctuations. Treatments like acne creams and gels can be helpful in fighting acne yet they do not always take effect quickly. Though many dermatologists recommend popping pimples, it can be hard to fight the urge. Popping acne using the correct technique will do less damage than popping pimples incorrectly.
Step 1
Clean the area of skin with the pimple by washing it with a gentle cleanser and warm water. Dry the area with a towel and apply a toner using a cotton ball or Q-tip. This helps to clean the pimple and reduce the amount of bacteria that is present. The American Academy of Dermatology recommends choosing a toner that is alcohol-free so that it won’t dry out the skin.
Step 2
Soak a clean wash cloth in hot water. Test the temperature on your wrist to make sure it’s not too hot. If the wash cloth is very warm but not to the point where it burns the skin, place it gently over the pimple. Let the wash cloth sit on the area for a few minutes to steam the skin and open the pores. It also makes the top layer of skin slightly softer so that it is easier to pop the pimple.
Step 3
Sterilize the tip of a pimple extractor in rubbing alcohol. According to the website Health Guidance, a pimple extractor is a sharp-tipped instrument that is used to prick pimples and blackheads with minimal scarring. They can be purchased in beauty supply stores nationwide. Gently poke the pointed tip of the pimple extractor in to the tip of the pimple. If you do not see any pus coming out of the pimple, stop. Some pimples cannot be popped, as they are deep underneath the skin. If pus comes out of the pimple, gently squeeze the area until no more pus comes out. Wipe the pus away with the warm wash cloth.
Step 4
Dab a little antibiotic ointment on the area where you popped the zit. Health Guidance states that antibiotic gels and creams can help to prevent infections. Avoid touching the area the rest of the day, unless your hands are washed and you are applying more antibiotic ointment.

I think there might be a typo. I don't believe that dermatologist actually "recommend" popping pimples.
