Changing a larger-sized diaper that is a size four, five or six, usually means that you are changing a larger baby or toddler. When changing a toddler who is constantly on the go, diaper changes need to be swift and distracting so you don't find yourself chasing after a wiggly child and leaving a large mess left behind. Changing a girl's jumbo diaper will also require special care to ensure your toddler doesn't contract a urinary tract infection. Learn to change a jumbo diaper quickly and efficiently to beat the daily diaper-changing battle.
Step 1
Find a flat surface that is ideal for diaper changes. Your older baby or toddler may have outgrown her changing table, so it's a good idea to invest in a portable changing bad. That way, any flat, sturdy surface can be made into a change table, including the floor, couch or a bed. You'll still need to ensure that you always keep one hand on your toddler at all times, especially when changing her on an elevated surface.
Step 2
Lay your baby onto the changing pad and offer a distraction so she doesn't resist having her diaper changed, suggests BabyCenter.com. The older your child gets, the more likely she is to be reluctant to endure a diaper change. Keys, a small toy or a round mirror with safety casing are all good choices. Keep a few toys in a basket with your diaper changing materials so you always have something close at hand.
Step 3
Unfasten the diaper and use the front portion of the diaper to wipe down any matter as you fold the soiled diaper underneath your child's bottom. When you reach for the baby wipes to clean your baby's bottom, it is imperative that you remember to wipe from the front to the back. Girls are especially susceptible to urinary tract infections that can often be spread by contamination, notes KidsHealth.org, a division of the Nemours Foundation. Only use a wipe once before discarding it.
Step 4
Remove the soiled diaper, place the soiled wipes inside and roll it up, fastening with the straps to contain the mess. Discard in the garbage or a diaper pail. Slide a clean diaper under your daughter's bottom.
Fasten the diaper snugly, but not so tightly that you see rolls or pinched flesh. You should be able to fit two fingers in between the top of diaper and your baby's skin, according to the American Pregnancy Association.
Step 5
Lift your toddler off of the changing pad and sanitize it with antibacterial wipes. Wash your hands well with soap and water.
