If you know that warmer weather is coming and you have a propensity to sweat, you may find yourself worrying about dealing with foot odor. It can be highly embarrassing to take off your shoes in public when foot odor is a problem because this is the type of problem that is very obvious. There are several things you can do to avoid embarrassment.

Step 1

Keep your feet clean. Odors come from sweat and bacteria combining in a dark warm space such as your shoes. Wash your feet daily with warm water and soap, which can be done when you bathe.

Step 2

Wear clean socks daily. If your socks start to smell, wash them and add a cup of white vinegar to the rinse cycle. Don’t wear the same pair of socks two days in a row without washing them first.

Step 3

Change out your shoes by wearing a different pair each day. On the days that you aren’t wearing certain shoes, place scented dryer sheets in them to keep them smelling fresh.

Step 4

Wear clean synthetic socks while wearing shoes to absorb moisture unless you are wearing sandals or other styles of shoes that allow your feet to get air flow.

Step 5

Watch what you eat as some foods, especially those with pungent odors can lead to odors. Avoid excessive garlic, onions and exotic spices to help keep odors under control.

Tips and Warnings

  • Drinking plenty of water throughout the day can keep you hydrated and your body temperature lower so you won’t sweat as much.
