Making your own hair care products allows you complete control over the purity and quality of the ingredients in them. It's also fun to experiment with different oils, essential oils, teas and herbs to make a product that is uniquely yours, satisfying your senses as well as meeting your specific hair care needs.

Step 1

Pour the olive oil into the plastic bottle. Add the rosemary sprigs or essential oil. Heat for ten seconds in the microwave, repeating until the container is pleasantly warm, not hot enough to burn your scalp.

Step 2

Using the comb, part your hair and drizzle the warm olive oil and rosemary on the roots of your hair. Keep parting your hair every 1/4 inch and applying the oil until your entire scalp has been oiled.

Step 3

Massage your scalp thoroughly with your fingers, then use your comb to comb the oil through to the ends of your hair, adding more oil if necessary.

Step 4

Part your hair in sections and apply aloe vera gel to each section at the roots. Use all the aloe vera gel. Use your comb to pull the aloe vera gel from your roots out to the ends of your hair. Run your fingers through your hair to make sure it is all conditioned and there are no dry areas.

Step 5

Put on the shower cap and wrap a warm towel around it. You can leave this mask on your hair for a couple of hours, if you like.

Step 6

Steep chamomile tea, black tea or rosemary tea in boiling water and allow it to cool. For rosemary tea, use a sprig of fresh rosemary.

Finally, shampoo the oil and gel out of your hair using a gentle shampoo. Rinse with chamomile tea if your hair is blond or red, rinse with cool black tea or rosemary tea if your hair is brunette or black.

Tips and Warnings

  • The oil and rosemary penetrate better into your hair if warm. You can microwave a towel for 30 seconds to make it warm, or you can sit out in the sunshine for a while. Instead of the aloe vera gel, you can use an organic conditioner.
  • Be careful not to burn yourself by using hot tea instead of allowing the tea to cool. If you are concerned about sensitivity, do a patch test with each ingredient. Dab a little of each ingredient on to your scalp 24 hours before your treatment. If there is no irritation at the end of the 24 hours, it is likely safe to use these ingredients.
