Kona, on the "Big Island" of Hawaii, stretches 60 miles from the Kona International Airport to Kealakekua Bay. Hiking
Kona encompasses many miles of hiking trails for all abilities, including in world-famous national parks. Try the Hakoko-Honokohau National Park, 3 miles south of Keahole-Kona International airport, which has many hiking trails along the coastline. Puuhonua National Park has a 2-mile hike where you can view the ancient temples and enjoy natural beauty. Biking
Go bicycling on Kona on over 500 miles of flat paved roads--a great idea for family excursions. Enjoy all the beautiful scenery and places of interest up close. Several shops in Kona rent bicycles and offer organized tours for half-day or full day. Or take off on your own with map in hand and create your own itinerary
Snorkeling
The shores of Kona offer many accessible snorkeling spots with calm water and excellent underwater visibility. You will view the natural coral reefs and get a peek at the sea life, including many tropical fish schools and green sea turtles. Other areas for snorkeling near Kona are White Sand Spencer Beach Park and Power Bay. Kahalu'u Bay, located in Kona, is a good place to snorkel with the entire family. There you'll find ample parking, restrooms, picnic benches and lifeguards.

Farmer's Market
If you are looking for good food and want to see local crafts head out to Kona Farmer's Market located on Ali'i Drive in Kailua Kona. You can snack on macadamia nuts, fresh coconut and enjoy some of the locally grown fresh tropical fruits, such as pineapple, guava, papayas and local honey. Indulge in a cup of 100 percent Kona coffee or herbal tea for your beverage. Alongside the food vendors you will find Hawaiian sarongs, salt crystals, wood carvings and other handmade items. The market is open Wednesday through Sunday all year long.
Diving
With interesting lava formations and gentle waters Kona coast diving is an exceptional experience. Novice and experienced divers can view a variety of sea creatures including dolphins swimming among underwater lava tubes and arches. Kona has several dive shops that rent equipment and offer lessons and dive trips. Experienced divers might try the Manta Ray Night Dive, which is just what it says--an opportunity to swim with manta rays at night.
