While cold sores and fever blisters are rarely dangerous or serious medical concerns, they can be uncomfortable, painful and embarrassing for those who routinely suffer from them. There are home remedies using sauerkraut juice that can help treat cold sores and fever blisters. However, these treatments have not been approved by the FDA, so talk with your doctor or dermatologist before treating yourself with any of these remedies.
Sauerkraut Juice for Cold Sores
According to Jethro Kloss, author of "Back to Eden: The Classic Guide to Herbal Medicine, Natural Foods, and Home Remedies Since 1939,” sauerkraut juice can be applied to cold sores to help get rid of them. To use sauerkraut juice, squeeze a small amount of sauerkraut with clean hands into a small bowl, reserving the juice. Apply a small amount of the sauerkraut juice to the affected area and leave it on for 15 minutes before rinsing the area with cool water and washing with a mild soap. This remedy can be repeated several times per day as long as it does not bother your skin or cause any sort of irritation. Sauerkraut juice can be kept in the refrigerator for five to seven days if you plan to use the juice regularly.
