Olympic weightlifter and gold medalist Ike Berger created the Power Shaper. The device resembles a rope. It works in the same manner as exercise bands and tubing, providing resistance when pulled. Each end has two loops; one set for your hands, the other for your feet. You can do a variety of upper body exercises with the Power Shaper.
Ab Scissors
This exercise works your abdominal muscles. Lie on your back on a mat. Loop two of the Power Shaper handles over your feet. Hold the other ends in your hands over your chest. Lift your legs about six inches off the floor. Make sure your low back stays pressed into the ground. If it arches, raise your legs. Press both legs out to the side. Bring them back together, crossing them so your left leg is above your right leg. Press out again. When you pull them back together, cross them so your right leg is above your left. Continue in a slow, controlled, scissor-like motion.
Bicep Curls
This exercise works your arms. Stand with your feet in two of the Power Shaper handles. Hold the other ends, one in each hand. Hang your arms straight down at your sides with your palms facing away from you. Keep your upper arm, from your shoulder to your elbow, locked next to your side throughout the movement. Curl the weight up by bending your elbow. Do not let your elbow move away from your side. Squeeze your bicep, then slowly lower. Maintain a slight bend in your elbow; do not lock it out at the bottom of the exercise.
Shoulder Raises
This shoulder exercise starts from a standing position. With your arms down at your sides, hold the handles so your palms face each other. Keep your arms straight, but don't lock out your elbows. Lift your arms out to your sides until they are about parallel to the ground. Hold this top position for a count before slowly lowering the weight. Turn your hands so your palms face you. Lift your arms out in front of your body until they are about parallel to the ground. Hold this position for a count before lowering your arms. Alternate lifting your arms to the side and to the front.
