Slimming body wraps, in which the skin is covered with a clay or herbal mixture and then wrapped in gauze or plastic, have become a popular item on spa menus. Providers claim that body wraps reduce the appearance of cellulite and tighten and tone the skin to make you appear slimmer; however, there is some debate as to whether they actually work. The majority of reviewers on RealSelf.com reported that while body wraps were very relaxing, they did not make them appear slimmer. To save yourself some money, you can try a slimming body wrap at home before shelling out the big bucks at an expensive salon.

Step 1

Boil two cups of water on the stove in a medium sauce pan.

Step 2

Remove pan from stove and add 1/4 cup sea salt. Allow it to dissolve fully.

Step 3

Add the olive oil and slowly add the clay as you stir the mixture until it is a smooth paste. If the paste is too thick, add more water; if it is too thin, add more clay.

Step 4

Allow the mixture to cool slightly and then apply it to your skin. You can apply it to your entire body or only to problem areas, such as thighs and buttocks.

Step 5

Wrap yourself tightly in thin towels or old sheets, and rest for 45 minutes.

Step 6

Unwrap the towels or sheets and shower to remove the clay mixture. Finish with a cool water rinse to close the pores.

Step 7

Apply a light moisturizer to the areas that were wrapped.

Things You'll Need

  • I cup bentonite or green clay
  • 1/4 cup sea salt
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 2 cups water
  • Moisturizer
