For women, the best way to remove facial hair is through a technique called waxing. The technique utilizes a sticky, waxy resin that grasps hairs and pulls them free from the skin. The hair and root bulb are pulled completely out of the skin, and the follicle must regrow a new hair. Regrowth takes time, so most women can expect smooth skin for two to six weeks after waxing. Additionally, the hair that grows back after waxing is often finer and thinner due to the rate of regrowth and follicle damage sustained during the procedure.
Step 1
Remove the lid from the microwavable wax. Place the container in the microwave, and heat on high for 60 seconds. Remove the container from the microwave and stir the wax with a wooden craft stick or Popsicle stick. Inspect the wax to make sure it is all melted and fluid. Heat for an additional 30 seconds if necessary.
Step 2
Dip out a small amount of wax with the wooden stick. Allow to cool for about 10 seconds before placing on the skin. Spread wax on one side of the upper lip from the center of the lip outward. Repeat for other side. Press a waxing strip onto each side, and smooth down into the wax from the center outward.
Step 3
Hold skin taut with one hand by pulling back on the skin to the side of one of the waxing strips. Grasp the outer corner of the waxing strip with your thumb and forefinger. Pull the strip straight back against the hair growth in a quick, fluid motion. Repeat for the other side.
Step 4
Remove any remaining hairs with the tweezers.
Step 5
Dampen a cotton ball with wax remover and gently rub away any excess wax.
Tips and Warnings
- Hair must be 1/4 inch or longer to wax. Allow some time for hair to reach an adequate length before waxing to avoid unnecessary tweezing.
- Do not attempt to wax the same area twice. Doing so may result in burns, skin tears, bruising and scabbing. Do not wax immediately after swimming, sunbathing or using the tanning bed. Doing so may result in skin irritation.
