False eyelashes make the eyes stand out and are available in different colors and styles. Some false eyelashes are designed to look natural for everyday wear or for sophisticated nighttime functions. If you want to look wild for a special party, try the false lashes that come in outrageous colors, that are extra long or that have gemstones on them. False eyelashes come as a strip or as individual lashes. Individual false lashes give you the control to create a subtle look or a full, thick lashed look. Except for a few types of party false lashes, false lashes are only applied to the upper lid.
Strip False Eyelashes
Step 1
Apply all of your makeup (foundation, powder, lipstick, blush and eyeshadow), except for your mascara and eyeliner.
Step 2
Measure the false lashes against your eyes. To measure the false eyelashes, hold the base of the strip at the base of your upper natural eyelashes. Note if the false lashes are too long. Take the false eyelashes away from your eye and trim them, using a pair of eyebrow scissors, to the appropriate size. Measure each eye with a different strip of false eyelashes to compensate for natural eye shape and size differences.
Step 3
Squeeze a thin line of eyelash adhesive along the base of one false eyelash strip. Smooth out the adhesive using the back of a pair of tweezers to get rid of any thick, gloppy areas of the adhesive. Let the adhesive glue partially dry on the false lashes for three seconds.
Step 4
Press the false eyelash strip against the center of your upper eyelid at the base of your eyelashes, using your fingers. You are holding the false lashes right side up, if the lashes are curled upwards. Then press down on the rest of the lashes, starting at the side toward your inner eye. Apply gentle pressure to the eyelashes for five seconds to make sure the adhesive sticks.
Step 5
Apply eyelash adhesive to the second false eyelash strip. Put the second eyelash strip on your other eye using the same method as above.
Step 6
Put eyeliner on your upper eyelash lid, along the base of your lashes, to disguise the line of the false eyelash strip.
Step 7
Brush mascara onto your upper lashes to blend your natural lashes together with the false lashes.
Individual False Eyelashes
Step 1
Apply all of your makeup (foundation, powder, lipstick, blush and eyeshadow), except for your mascara and eyeliner.
Step 2
Squeeze two drops of eyelash adhesive onto napkin.
Step 3
Pick up one false individual eyelash using a pair of tweezers or your fingers. Dip the base of the individual eyelash into the adhesive glue. Let the adhesive glue partially dry on the false lash for three seconds.
Step 4
Press the individual eyelash against the center of your upper eyelid at the base of your eyelashes, using a pair of tweezers or your fingers. You are holding the false individual lash right side up, if the lash is curled upward. Hold the individual eyelash in place, applying gentle pressure, for five seconds.
Step 5
Apply the remaining individual lashes on both eyes using the method above. Dip one individual lash in the adhesive at a time. Apply the individual lashes along the entire upper eyelid. Place the lashes slightly apart from each other for a more natural look.
Step 6
Put eyeliner on your upper eyelash lids, along the base of your lashes, to disguise the line of the false eyelash strip.
Step 7
Brush mascara onto your upper lashes to blend your natural lashes together with the false lashes.
Tips and Warnings
- Eyelash adhesive turns clear once it dries. To remove false eyelashes, grab the lashes toward the base with your fingers and gently pull them away from the lid. Lower lid lashes are applied using the same method as upper lashes, except on the bottom lid.
