Though golfers would rather see their golf ball sail through the air and straight into the hole after a perfect swing, these scenarios aren’t as frequent as we would like. Instead, the ball travels through dirt, mud, sand and tall grass on its way to its destination. Used golf balls tend to not have the same appeal or efficiency of newer, cleaner golf balls, because the dirt and debris clinging to the surface can slow them down. With a little time and effort, your used golf balls can look like new again.
Step 1
Place the used golf balls in the bottom of a bucket.
Step 2
Pour warm water into the bucket until the golf balls are completely submerged.
Step 3
Add enough liquid dish soap or powdered dish detergent to make the water sudsy.
Step 4
Allow the golf balls to soak for one to two hours.
Step 5
Remove the golf balls individually and scrub them with an old soft-bristle toothbrush dipped in the soapy water to remove dirt.
Step 6
Rinse the golf balls under warm running water.
Step 7
Dry off each golf ball with a clean dry towel.
Tips and Warnings
- If golf balls are badly stained, soak them in a gallon of warm water with two to three denture tablets for at least an hour. The fizzing will help to loosen dirt and remove tough stains.
