Facial exercises may help you maintain healthy skin, a more youthful appearance, and encourage good muscle tone that supports and fills in facial skin, reducing the appearance of wrinkles, sagging jowls or drooping chin or necklines. You can perform facial exercises for a few minutes every day for optimal results. Perform facial exercises in the morning and in the evening, or whenever you feel like it. A few simple exercises can work many of your face muscles, including the forehead, cheeks, mouth, eyes and jaw line.
Forehead Exercise
Reduce strain in the forehead and prevent frown lines or wrinkles by placing the sides of your index fingers just above each eyebrow. Lift slightly upward with your fingers while trying to lower your eyebrows at the same time, suggests Fitness Health Zone. You can repeat this exercise about 10 times several times a day.
Face Scrunch
Contract every muscle in your face by scrunching it, suggests Ultimate-Cosmetics. Purse your lips, wrinkle your nose, lower your eyebrows and tightly close the eyes. Hold the contraction for a second or two and then relax the muscles, opening your eyes and mouth wide. Then performing the scrunching move again, this time scrunching the right side of the face, then the left. This exercise engages just about every muscle in the face and offers an all-around facial exercise that benefits the eyes, cheeks, chin, mouth and jaw line.
Neck Stretch
Relax your neck and stretch your chin and jaw line muscles by tilting the head slightly backward so that your eyes are looking up at the ceiling. Your lips should be closed, but not pressed tightly together. Jut your chin up toward the ceiling and hold for few seconds. Then lift your lower lip over your upper lip and hold that position for about 10 seconds, which will help firm your chin, neck and jaw line, according to Fitness Health Zone. You'll feel the stretch along the front of the neck with this exercise.
Cheek Exercise
Take a deep breath and puff out the cheeks, holding the lips tightly closed, suggests Facial Exercises Guide. Push all the air into the right cheek and then into the left, switching back and forth for several seconds. Relax and then repeat the exercise sequence between four and five times. This exercise works the cheek and jaw muscles, offering toned, firmer cheeks.
Mouth Exercise
Smile slightly, keeping the others muscles of your face still. The corners of your mouth should be lifted upward. Hold that smile for about 10 seconds, suggests Facial Exercises Guide and then relax. You can do this exercise about five times in one sitting. This exercise works the muscles surrounding the mouth, toning and firming the lips.
