Destin’s white sandy beaches and beautiful green waters offer a great setting to enjoy a variety of outdoor adventure. Visitors will find fishing, snorkeling, water sports and golfing in the area. Those who are ready to relax and rejuvenate can enjoy some beachfront RV or tent camping, and go to sleep to the sound of the waves.
Location
Located in Florida’s Panhandle, the town of Destin offers easy access to the Emerald Coast along the Gulf of Mexico. Beach lovers will find plenty of sand and surf to enjoy in the area with Fort Walton Beach and Okaloosa Island located in the area as well.
Planning Your Trip
Several shops in Destin rent water sports equipment, including Boogies Water Sports and Emerald Coast Watersports. You'll find wave runners, boats, and jet skis, among other items. A Florida State saltwater fishing license is required to fish the Gulf. Anglers may buy the license online or purchase one at sporting goods shops in Destin.
State Park Campground
Offering more than 6,000 feet of shoreline, Henderson Beach State Park offers RV and tent camping right next to the beach. Guests may get lucky and see dolphins or sea turtles. Campsites offers water and electric hookups, picnic tables, grills and clothesline posts. There are restrooms with showers, a laundry area and vending machines. One of the only shady spots along the beach includes the picnic pavilions that feature barbecue grills located near the boardwalks. Outdoor showers and soda machines are also available near the pavilions. Kids will love the park playground while adults watch the view overlooking the Gulf of Mexico.
Private Campgrounds
Several private campgrounds offer beachfront campsites, including Destin RV Beach Resort. Catering to RVers, the campsites feature full hookups with cable television. Private bathrooms with showers, laundry facilities and wireless Internet access are available at this luxury gated campground. Guests can swim in the Gulf or frolic in the sand just steps from your campsite. Another option is to head to the heated swimming pool with its lush tropical landscaping.
Another campground, Camping on the Gulf Holiday Travel Park, also offers beachfront campsites for RVs of any size. Campsites feature full hookups, including cable television. Amenities include bathhouses with restrooms and wireless Internet access as well as a fitness area, heated pool and hot tub. Head to the beach to enjoy the waters, or walk to the nearby jetty to fish for mackerel or pompano. The jetty also offers a good spot to snorkel where guests can see a variety of tropical fish just steps from the campsite.
Activities
Fishing is popular in Destin. Angleres may catch pompano, red fish, flounder, catfish or whiting from the saltwater areas. Fishing is available from shore, or from a boat from any number of public boat launches in the area, or charter a fishing boat. For inland recreation, the Regatta Bay Golf & Country Club an the Kelly Plantation Golf Club will appeal to golfers.
