Trampolines are a great exercise tool and they provide entertainment for individuals, families and friends. They come in a variety of sizes, ranging from portable mini trampolines to large ones that multiple people may use at once. As beneficial as this equipment is, you must take extra steps to ensure the safety of you and your family. Long periods of usage, exposure to environmental elements and liquid spillage may compromise your trampoline's safety. If there is a tear in the mat, it will only grow larger with more use. You must inspect your trampoline regularly and make necessary repairs as soon as possible.
Step 1
Make frequent inspections to ensure your trampoline is safe. It is easier to fix problems when they are small than after they have gotten progressively worse. If you notice a small hole or tear, cover it with duct tape. Use duct tape only for minor issues, as more extensive wear and tear requires more work to guarantee safety.
Step 2
Determine the size of the hole or tear with your measuring tape. If it is larger than two inches, do not try to patch it up. You must get a new mat from the manufacturer.
Step 3
Remove the mat from trampoline if you are able to patch the tear. Grab your sewing machine and place a patch from your kit over the area that needs repair. Sew around the entire edge of the patch.
Step 4
Read the instructions in your manufacturer's patch kit to determine what type of stitching you need. The type of stitching you'll use around the patch will depend on the type of weave of your mat. Stitch the patch multiple times to guarantee its strength to withstand use.
Step 5
Cut residual material remaining on the patch, then lay the mat on your trampoline frame.
