Anyone who suffers from body odor knows what a large problem it can really be. Contributing to social and intimate awkwardness and embarrassment, body odor is a problem that isn’t easily ignored. Body odor derives from the mixture of sweat and bacteria and can be worsened by improper diet and hygiene. If body odor is making a statement about you before you do it’s time to take charge and tackle this smelly problem.
Step 1
Watch what you eat. Foods with pungent odors and exotic spices can contribute to body odor and should be avoided. A lack of zinc in one’s diet can sometimes lead to body odor, so be sure to add foods such as cucumbers and asparagus. Also avoid consuming too much red meat, processed foods, and garlic and onions.
Step 2
Bathe at least once a day, but if body odor is strong, twice daily may be optimal. Washing with an antibacterial or deodorant soap both help to inhibit bacteria. Be sure to rinse your body well to eliminate any soap residue before getting out of the shower and drying off with an absorbent dry towel.
Step 3
Wear clothing that is light in material and color. Cotton clothing that is porous allows air flow to circulate around the body and can help to keep you cool. Wash your clothing after you wear them once and add a cup of white vinegar to the rinse cycle to help eliminate odors that may become trapped within the fabric.
Step 4
Experiment with different brands of deodorants and antiperspirants to find which one works best for you and apply it often throughout the day, especially after bathing. Applying baking soda under your arms is an effective natural alternative to help absorb moisture and unpleasant odors.
Step 5
Keep hydrated throughout the day to keep your body temperature cool to help prevent sweating. Drink plenty of water and avoid excessive caffeine and alcohol, which can dehydrate you.
Tips and Warnings
- Sometimes medications or medical conditions are the cause of body odor. Talk to your doctor if nothing seems to help eliminate the body odor as only your doctor can adjust prescriptions and pinpoint medical causes.
