The fungal infection of the skin, which appears in a circular-type raised rash is known as ringworm but actually has the name of tinea, according to FamilyDoctor.org. The skin may appear red and scaly at the site of the rash. This skin fungus when transmitted to the head occurs by sharing hairbrushes, towels and bedding as well as clothes. Treatment involves anti-fungal creams as well as other measures to stop its recurrence.
Step 1
Use anti-fungal shampoo as prescribed by the doctor, FamilyDoctor.org says. Wash your hair as often as your doctor recommends. Dry your hair with a hair dryer. Do not re-use the same towel, and wash it immediately.
Step 2
Wash your bedding at least twice a week. Keep your pillowcases clean and avoid sharing your bedding with your pets. Bring your pets to the veterinarian if they show symptoms of ringworm. Ringworm can spread from a common household pet to a human living in the home, according to FamilyDoctor.org.
Step 3
Disinfect areas of your house where dampness occurs and wash all dirty linens and towels. Use the disinfectant in the bath and tiles as well as near the toilet. Keep the floors of your house clean, using a disinfectant to clean the floors.
Step 4
Dry your body thoroughly after taking a shower, especially in skin folds and between the toes. Clean your socks every day and do not wear socks twice. Do not borrow clothing from others or use someone's hair brush. Do not share linens or towels, FamilyDoctor.org says.
Step 5
Clean any exercise equipment before each use. If you use equipment in a gym frequented by other people, make sure it is clean and use your own towel where you need to place your head if necessary while using equipment such as a machine to perform sit-ups, according to FamilyDoctor.org.
Step 6
Change your underclothing every day and do not wear it twice, FamilyDoctor.org says. Fungus grows in moist and dirty clothing.
