Ingredients in Olay Definity Correcting Protective Lotion

Definity Correcting Protective Lotion is an Oil of Olay facial skincare product. The company claims this product reduces the appearance of uneven skin tone and helps brighten the skin using Olay's glucosamine complex. According to a Harvard Medical School study published in the February 2010 edition of the British Journal of Medicine, researchers found that applying a combination of N-acetyl glucosamine and niacinamide does reduce the appearance of irregular pigmentation. Definity Correcting Protective Lotion contains other key ingredients to improve effectiveness.

N-Acetyl Glucosamine

Also known as NAG, this is the main component of Olay's glucosamine complex. This ingredient prevents chemical reactions in skin cells that lead to freckles and liver spots.

Niacinamide

Also known as nicotinic acid, niacin or vitamin B3, this water-soluble ingredient stimulates circulation and prevents loss of moisture in the skin. It improves skin elasticity and the appearance of wrinkles, while reducing the look of redness and skin discoloration.

Aloe Barbadensis

Aloe barbadensis is a form of the familiar aloe vera plant. It is non-irritating and may lead to skin healing.

Dimethicone and Dimethiconol

These additives are silicones that have a silk-like feel and help reduce the appearance of scars. These ingredients remain effective even if the skin becomes wet.

Glycerin

Glycerin is a soap derivative that pulls moisture from the air to help hydrate skin. It also makes the lotion easier to spread.

Panthenol

Panthenol is a moisturizer that absorbs deep into the skin. It also converts in a B complex vitamin, pantothenic acid.

Sodium Hyaluronate

This material creates a clear, protective barrier over the skin. Sodium hyaluronate is also a powerful moisturizer.

Titanium Dioxide

Titanium dioxide is a mineral used as a sunscreen component. It helps shield skin from damaging UVA and UVB rays without causing irritation.

Tocopheryl Acetate

Also known as vitamin E, tocopheryl acetate has moisturizing and antioxidant properties. It may also minimize damage from environmental pollution.

Inactive Ingredients

Olay Definity Corrective Protective Lotion also contains other ingredients to formulate the finished product. The company website lists the additional ingredients as water, cyclopentasiloxane, isobutane, propane, polyethylene, polyacrylamide, polysorbate 20, c13-14 isoparaffin, dmdm hydantoin, laureth-4, laureth-7, leaf juice, safflower seed oil, disodium edta, cranberry fruit extract, soybean seed extract, fragrance, iodopropynyl butylcarbamate, butylene glycol, morus alba root extract, soluble collagen, sodium benzoate, methylparaben, tin oxide and mica.
