BMX ramp tips will help you perform challenging tricks and achieve big air while riding on a BMX course. BMX ramps range from half pipe ramps to quarter pipe ramps. If you are just starting out, it might be wise to build a small ramp to practice on before heading out to a professional skate park.

Barspin Trick

The barspin is a basic BMX trick that allows you to fully rotate your handle bars while in midair. Stand 20 feet from a BMX ramp and ride slowly toward it. Make sure that the ramp has a smooth transfer at the top so you can perform a safe landing if you do not get enough speed. As you increase your speed, hunch your body over the bike to decrease wind resistance. As you approach the lip of the ramp, pull up on the front handle bars and jump toward the other side of the ramp. While in midair, rotate your handlebars clockwise, making sure that your feet do not get in the way of your front tire. Once you perform a full clockwise rotation, grab the handle bars and land the bike.

Manual Trick

The manual is a basic BMX trick that is important for bikers to perform before and after ramp jumps. Before trying this trick on a ramp, it is important to master it on the ground. Ride forward on your bike, getting an adequate amount of speed. Lift up on your front handle bars until your front wheel is off the ground. Balance on the back wheel and try to continue to ride the bike for as long as you can. After you master this, try transitioning from a jump into a manual. Hit the ramp going a solid speed, and as you land, lift your front wheel up to stay on your back wheel. Because you will be hitting the ground at a high speed, it is important to only lift your front wheel a small amount off of the ground.

The Pogo Trick

The pogo trick teaches you how to ride while balancing on your front wheel. Start by riding toward a small ramp at a consistent speed. As you hit the lip of the ramp, pull up on your handle bars and jump over the lip. On your decent, shift your weight from the seat of the bike to the front wheel. As you land, try and pick out a spot on the ground where your front tire will go. After you hit the ground, continue to push your weight to the front end of the bike, keeping the back wheel off the ground. See how far you can balance on the front wheel before falling. The website BMX Tricks Now also recommends performing this trick while standing on your back pegs for increased difficulty.
