Malaria is an infectious disease caused by a parasite known as plasmodium. It is spread through the bites of infected anopheles mosquito. The World Health Organization states that, in 2008, there were 247 million cases of malaria worldwide and nearly one million deaths, mostly among African children. Malaria stomach symptoms begin seven to 15 days after infection

Nausea and Vomiting

According to the World Health Organization, symptoms of malaria begin with cycles of high fever chills, headache, muscle pain and sweating that repeats every one to two days. A few days before malaria symptoms begin to appear, patients may experience loss of appetite, malaise, nausea and vomiting.

Abdominal Pain

According to Drugs.com, plasmodium parasites travel to the liver where they mature and infect red blood cells. This leads to the enlargement of the liver and spleen which may cause abdominal pain. Untreated malaria is dangerous because it may lead to liver failure and rupture of the spleen.

Diarrhea

Drugs.com states that some patients with malaria may develop diarrhea. As malaria parasites continue to infect and destroy red blood cells, patients may experience bloody diarrhea along with stomach cramping.
