Bike races abound all around the world. Finding the right one at the right place can be a bit challenging, but if you have sincere desire you can find the bike race you are looking for. If you just want to watch a bike race, your will have many options. If you want to race in one, you will need to be choosier.

Get Specific

Step 1

Determine what kind of bike races you are interested in. There are road races in rural areas, road races in urban areas called criteriums, off-road races and track races that take place on built, banked wooden tracks, according to the International Bike Fund.

Step 2

Decide whether you want to be an observer or a participant. Some races are spectator-friendly and others are not. And some races are made for specific skill and experience levels.

Step 3

Choose how dedicated you are to competing. Entering a race that features many professionals can be a bad idea if you are a beginner.

Seek Out Information

Step 1

Search the Internet for bike races, using search engines or bike-specific forums. Type in specifics when searching through a search engine, not vague terms.

Step 2

Read the sports section and the lifestyle section in the local newspaper for announcements and previews about bike races. Buy newspapers on a daily basis and scour all sections diligently.

Step 3

Join a bike club to get information on upcoming races. The Tacoma Wheelmen's Club has a monthly newsletter that lists upcoming races and other biking details, plus links on its website about races.

Tips and Warnings

  • Ask questions. If you see people who look like they ride in or attend bike races, ask them for tips. Visit local bike shops to see if there are flyers.
  • Make certain that you are seeking out bike race information and not information about motocross or motorcycle races.
