If you suddenly notice dark hairs sprouting from your chin, you will probably want to get rid of them quickly. Unusual facial hair growth in women can be caused by many factors, including hormonal surges and prescription medications. You can choose from quick home hair removal that lasts a few weeks, or talk to a dermatologist about permanent hair-removal treatments. Professional hair removal can be expensive and take several visits, but the results can last a lifetime.

Step 1

Pluck your chin hair for quick and easy removal at home. Use a pair of tweezers to grab the hair close to the skin, then pull quickly to pluck the hair from your face. The Kids Health website states that plucking lasts for three to seven weeks.

Step 2

Wax your chin hair to quickly remove multiple hairs at once. You can purchase hot wax for hair removal at drug stores. Heat the wax according to package directions, then apply the warm wax to your face. Press a clean piece of cloth onto the warm wax, then pull the cloth quickly from your skin. The wax will come with the cloth, taking your chin hair with it. You can also visit a salon for a professional waxing treatment if you prefer not to try waxing at home. Waxing keeps hair away for three to six weeks, according to the Kids Health website.

Step 3

Purchase a depilatory cream at the drug store. Follow the instructions on the bottle and rub the cream into your chin, then wipe off with a clean towel. Using a chemical depilatory will keep your chin hair away for up to two weeks.

Step 4

Get a laser hair removal treatment. A dermatologist can use a laser to zap your unwanted chin hair. The American Academy of Dermatology's website states that repeat treatments are needed for laser hair removal to be effective. Laser hair removal can get rid of about 80 percent of unwanted hair. Often any remaining hair grows back softer and lighter after laser treatments.

Step 5

Visit a doctor for electrolysis treatments. According to the American Academy of Family Physicians, electrolysis is the only permanent method of hair removal. During an electrolysis treatment, a doctor will insert a small metal probe into your hair follicles. The probe kills the hair using an electrical current. Electrolysis must often be repeated to achieve permanent results.

Tips and Warnings

  • If you choose to pluck your chin hairs, sterilize your tweezers first by rinsing them with rubbing alcohol before use.
  • The American Academy of Family Physicians warns that many methods of hair removal come with side effects. Depilatory creams can cause skin irritation and electrolysis treatments can lead to facial scarring.
