Saunas are increasing in popularity, and can now be found everywhere from health clubs to gyms to hotels to college dormitories. This can be attributed to the health benefits that saunas have for the entire body, from increasing cardiovascular function to boosting the immune system. Saunas are beneficial for skin complexion as well.

Pores

One of the main reasons a sauna is beneficial to your skin is because it cleans out your pores. By raising your body's internal temperature, the sauna triggers your body's natural cooling mechanism, which is sweating. The sweating rinses the dead skin and bacteria from the pores. This is different than cleaning your body in a shower, where you would simply rinse off the outside of your body.

Blood Circulation

When you are in a sauna, your heart works harder to help cool down your body. This increases the circulation of the blood, which brings oxygen and nutrients from inside your body closer to your skin. The increased circulation has the biggest effect on the health and complexion of your skin.

Acne

Saunas can also help fight existing acne and prevent new acne from forming. Rinsing bacteria from your pores through sweating can help stop breakouts. Saunas also soften your skin, so that the bacteria that is trapped inside existing acne pimples can be released. A gentle cleansing after a sauna is more effective than cleaning dry, tight skin.
