The American Academy of Dermatology affirms that skin-tightening treatments help to refine and rejuvenate the texture of the skin. Skin becomes loose or pores become enlarged mostly in response to age. Some common skin conditions, however, actually accelerate aging, such as acne and the associated comedones, known as whiteheads, blackheads and pimples. Using herbal remedies to tighten loose skin can help to prevent the side effects caused by chemicals in commercial products. Alcohol, for example, increases the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles as it tends to dry out the skin to expose imperfections. Although herbal remedies are a popular alternative, the necessary scientific data that illustrate their efficacy on skin-tightening is lacking. Always speak to your dermatologist before applying any herbal remedy to your skin.

Oatmeal and Tea Tree Oil Buffer

The composition of skin includes multiple layers of dermis in which the lowest layer constantly generates healthy and new skin cells. These cells slowly die as they ascend to the skin's surface and fill with a protective protein called keratin. Keratin is the protective barrier that safeguards your skin from external damages such as UV light or pollutants. Over time, these dead skin cells can accumulate on the skin, settling into loose skin to make your skin appear older, dull and lackluster. Using a buffer to slough away these amassed cells can help to tighten skin and reduce the appearance of wrinkles and acne by preventing clogged pores.

Combine organic, whole-grain oatmeal with tea tree oil. Oatmeal contains anti-inflammatory and calming qualities and heals the skin after external trauma caused by the sun or other stresses, reports the RN Guide to Skin Care. As a mild exfoliant, oatmeal helps to tighten loose skin and reduce the appearance of large pores. Alternately, tea tree oil contains antimicrobial properties helpful in warding off infections detrimental to your skin's health. Additionally, it can easily penetrate the skin to the cellular level to hydrate the skin giving it a more supple, smooth appearance beneficial to those with loose skin, the International Aromatherapy and Herbs Association says. Nevertheless, there still lacks concrete data regarding tea tree oil's effectiveness on aged skin.

Witch Hazel Toner

Witch hazel has tannins, which contribute to its astringent properties, which are helpful in tightening the skin and reducing swelling, states herbs2000.com. This herb also contains proanthocyancidins, a plant based compound offering a strong antioxidant effect for the skin. Loose skin occurs when the cellular structures responsible for collagen and elastin break down in response to age or oxidation. Antioxidants help to prevent free radical damage, which accelerates skin loosening and wrinkles. Simply apply witch hazel liquid extract directly to the face in circular motions with a cotton pad.

Egg White and Thyme Oil Mask

An egg-white mask can provide firmer looking skin and reduce redness without clogging the pores. Thyme oil provides antibacterial, antifungal and antiseptic properties helpful in protecting the skin from blemish-causing bacteria as well as fighting infections already present on the surface, the Organic Facts website says. Thyme oil also helps to fortify the skin as a tonic within the mask, supplying essential moisture without obstructing pores. Simply whisk an egg white and mix with thyme essential oil and apply to the face for 10 to 15 minutes. Rinse with warm water and follow with cold water to close the pores.
