Thinning hair and certain scalp problems can be embarrassing and seem hard to treat. Perhaps you may even change your hair style to hide your thinning hair. There are certain products that can help with scalp conditions and thinning hair so you don't have to hide them anymore.

Solution for Thinning Hair

Certain shampoos are formulated with biotin, also referred to as pro-vitamin B, according to the Fitness Magazine website. Biotin works in a combination of ways for thinning hair. Biotin works as a thickening agent, which increases the volume of your hair. Without biotin, your hair may become dry, thin and brittle. Biotin can also aid in preventing hair loss, according to the University of Maryland Medical Center.

Solution for Dandruff

Dandruff is a condition of the scalp in which the scalp is itchy and dry flakes of skin are visible. Dry flakes of skin can stunt hair growth when follicles become clogged with the dead cells; the itchiness can also pose a problem when you scratch your head and tear the skin. Crusting can result from open breaks in the skin. Selsun Blue is sold over-the-counter to combat dandruff and relieve symptoms related to the condition by providing moisture to the scalp and slowing the production of skin cells, according to Drugs.com. Selsun Blue contains zinc, so individuals allergic to zinc are advised to avoid the product. Selsun Blue may also interact with certain prescription drugs, although the risk is low, according to Drugs.com.

Solution for Head Lice

Head lice can invade your scalp and nest in your hair. There are two types of medications sold over-the-counter to treat head lice, according to the Mayo Clinic. Rid, which uses pyrethrin as the active ingredient, can treat head lice and kill eggs. The alternative to Rid is Nix, which uses a different active ingredient called permethrin. Both products work similarly and are usually used as a first option treatment. If over-the-counter treatments aren't effective in combating extreme cases of head lice, your doctor can prescribe a stronger medication, such as a lotion, cream or shampoo.
