Conception occurs when a female egg is fertilized by sperm from the male, and is the basis for determining the date on which a baby is due to be delivered. While a gynecologist may take personal data or perform an ultrasound to gauge the age due date of the fetus, as a mother-to-be you may wish to calculate a conception date before your first visit to the doctor so you can begin to make plans for the big event.
Step 1
Determine the date that your last menstrual period began.
Step 2
Count 11 days from the date your period began to reach the first day conception was probable.
Step 3
Add ten days to the first day conception was probable. These ten days are the range in which conception occurred.
Step 4
Determine which day or days of the ten day range that you were sexually active. This will be your conception date.
Tips and Warnings
- If your menstrual cycle is irregular or you do not know the date your last period began, your gynecologist will most likely perform an ultrasound test to pinpoint the age of your fetus.
