Florida offers a wide variety of campsites to fit all needs and locations. Campsites can range from tent sites to RV parks to facilities renting cabins. It is easy to find a campsite near any of Florida's major population hubs, including Jacksonville, Tallahassee, Orlando and Tampa, as well as the keys. Some of the campsites offering the greatest variety of accommodations for visitors are detailed here.

Camping at Disney

Individuals visiting one or more of Disney's theme parks may wish to stay on site at Disney's Fort Wilderness Campground. Located in Lake Buena Vista, Fort Wilderness offers a range of accommodations. Individuals can tent camp, bring their motor homes or pop-up trailers, or even rent a cabin at the campground. The campground offers "rustic charm," as well as restaurants, a small store and laundry facilities. Individuals with motor homes can select from several different levels of hook-up. Some sites allow pets, although a current vaccination certificate is required. The Florida Parks website allows for online reservations.

Camping on the Gulf

In Destin, Florida, about halfway between Pensacola and Tallahassee, visitors can stay at the aptly named Camping on the Gulf campground. The campground is adjacent to--and in some areas on top of--one of the most beautiful beaches in Florida. More than 200 sites are available for RVs. Visitors can select between 30-amp and 50-amp sites and can request a pull-through site, pending availability. The campground offers shared bathrooms with hot showers, cable TV hookup, pay phones, a picnic shelter and a clubhouse. Camping on the Gulf also offers a hot tub, heated pool, indoor pool and immediate access to the shore. In addition to the RV park, the facility provides 19 cabins for rent.

Little Talbot Island State Park

The best camping in Jacksonville, Florida, is arguably at Little Talbot Island State Park, one of the few undeveloped barrier islands in northern Florida. The park features a variety of habitats, including forests, dunes and salt marshes. The setting allows for relaxation, wildlife observation and fishing. More physical activities include kayaking, hiking and surfing. The campground offers 36 camp sites, all of which can accommodate a tent and most of which can accommodate RVs. Visitors can reserve sites online.

Sugarloaf Key/Key West

Individuals interested in southern Florida may enjoy a visit to the KOA at Sugarloaf Key/Key West. The facility accommodates tent campers and RVs, in addition to offering cabins for rent. RVs can even be rented on-site, a relatively rare amenity at a campsite. RVs have access to 50-amp service and free cable TV. The KOA also has a full-service marina, an on-site café and pub, and a meeting room for guest use. Volleyball, a floating water trampoline, a dog park, a swimming pool and fishing are available free of charge. Guests may rent boats, snorkeling equipment and bicycles.

Abbey's Wig Wam

Visitors to Tampa, Florida, will find a number of campsites in the area, including Abbey's Wig Wam, a year-round site that can accommodate both tents and RVs. Abbey's offers 110 sites with hookups, providing either 30-amp or 50-amp service and also offering pull-through locations. Abbey's offers laundry facilities, phone hookups and a dump station. Pets on leashes are permitted. The campground is near Busch Gardens, University of South Florida, State Fair and Lazy Days.
