Honey is a treasured ingredient in many home skincare recipes. It is used to moisturize and exfoliate the skin, treat acne and soothe rosacea. Honey is not scientifically proven as a cosmetic ingredient, but it is rich in minerals and contains proteins, vitamins, enzymes and antibacterial agents, claim microbiologists Iqbad Ahmad and Farrukh Aqil in their book "New Strategies Combating Bacterial Infection." Not only is honey rich in nutrients, it is natural and inexpensive. You can feel good about cleansing your skin with a chemical-free, sweet-smelling face wash that is easy on your pocket book.
Step 1
Mix together 1 tsp. honey with 4 tsp. warm tap water. Or, try a more complex honey face wash recipe by mixing together 1 tsp. honey, 2 tsp. mineral water and 2 tsp. almond milk.
Step 2
Wet your face with warm water.
Step 3
Apply the honey face wash on your skin with your fingertips. Rub your fingertips over your face in small, gentle circles to exfoliate your skin.
Step 4
Rinse the honey face wash off your skin thoroughly with cool water.
Step 5
Pat your skin dry with a clean towel.
Step 6
Store extra face wash in the refrigerator in a closed container for up to one week.
Tips and Warnings
- Almond milk adds skin-nourishing vitamin E to the face wash and mineral water perks up the skin, according Narine Nikogosian, in her book "Return to Beauty: Old-World Recipes for Great Radiant Skin."
- Discontinue use of the honey face wash if you experience skin irritation. See your doctor if skin irritation is severe or lasts more than a few days.
