Exercises to get rid of love handles are ineffective, unless you change your diet. When you want to lose weight in one location, you have to reduce your overall body fat. The only tried-and-true way to do this is by cutting back on your calories to create a deficit. Once you do this, you then can perform exercise moves to slim down your love handles, which cover your obliques.
Step 1
Partake in any form of cardio that elevates your heart rate and causes you to breathe heavy. Jogging, swimming, step aerobics, elliptical training, stair climbing, rowing and kickboxing are examples. According to the American College of Sports Medicine, you need to do 60 to 90 minutes of cardio five days a week to lose weight.
Step 2
Execute a set of prone oblique rolls with a stability ball. Place your hands shoulders width apart on the floor, and prop your lower shins up on the ball. Lift your hips to form a straight line from your shoulders to your heels. Roll the ball toward your head as you move your knees toward your right arm. Hold for a second, extend your legs back out and repeat to your left side. Alternate back and forth in a steady motion.
Step 3
Lie on your back to do bicycle maneuvers for love handle reduction. Lift your legs, bend your knees and level your shins to the floor. Place your hands on the sides of your head, and lift your shoulders off the floor. Move your opposite knee and elbow toward each other while extending your other leg out straight. Reverse the movement in a twisting motion, and continue moving back and forth in a steady motion.
Step 4
Grip a medicine ball to Russian twists. Sit with your knees bent, feet flat on the floor and back approximately 45 degrees to the floor. Hold the ball in front of your stomach and rotate your torso to your right side. Touch the ball to the floor, quickly rotate to your left side and touch the floor again. Move back and forth in a fast but controlled motion.
Step 5
Perform a set of windshield wipers. Lie flat on your back with your arms out to your sides and palms flat on the floor. Keep your legs straight and raise them up until your feet are parallel to the ceiling. Lower your legs toward the floor on your right side as far as possible, then raise them up and lower them to your left side. Go back and forth in a steady, controlled fashion to reduce your love handles.
Step 6
Sit on the floor with your legs straight in front of you to do spine twists. Keep your back straight and extend your arms out to your sides parallel to the floor. Keep your lower body still as you twist your torso back and forth to your right and left sides. Move as far as possible each direction.
