Saunas and steam rooms are both becoming popular and have great benefits for your health and well-being. Many times the two terms get lumped together, but they are in fact not interchangeable. A majority of the benefits you see in one you will see in the other, but each have features and benefits that are unique.
Sauna Benefits
Saunas have a number of benefits, such as cleaning and detoxifying your skin, increasing blood circulation and improving your immune system.
As you sit in a sauna, your body temperature rises. This causes you to sweat, which helps eliminate bacteria and viruses from inside your body. Your immune system also begins to produce more white blood cells to fight off the artificial "fever" it detects.
Your heart also pumps harder to try to cool down the body, which in itself acts as an aerobic workout.
Steam Room Benefits
Because steam rooms have a high moisture content, their benefits are a little different than saunas. The condensed moisture relieves pressure in the sinuses and lungs, which helps to counteract conditions such as asthma and allergies.
The heat from steam rooms also causes your other muscles to relax, which aids muscle tension, high blood pressure and migraine headaches.
Benefits of Each
One thing that both saunas and steam rooms to is cause you to sweat excessively. This sweating causes your body to flush out dead cells and bacteria from inside the body out through the pores.
With the increased blood circulation that saunas and steam rooms cause, good nutrients are transported throughout the body while at the same time unwanted toxins are eliminated.
