How to Make a Baby Ice Pack

Babies who are crawling and learning to walk will probably sustain regular bumps and bruises. Keep a homemade ice pack in the freezer for those times. Ice packs can also help keep a baby cool on a hot summer day. Making an ice pack takes about ten minutes.

Step 1

Mix 1 cup of ice cubes in a blender until slightly crushed, unless your freezer has an ice maker that produces ice chips. Put the chips in a plastic bag.

Step 2

Add a few drops of food coloring to make the ice pack visually interesting to an infant. Zip the bag closed.

Step 3

Seal the opening with duct tape. Place the bag into the freezer until it is needed.

Step 4

Wrap the bag in a terrycloth towel before using. Use a towel that has cartoon characters or a variety of colors to keep the baby entertained.

Things You'll Need

  • Resealable plastic sandwich bag
  • Food coloring
  • Colorful towel
  • Blender (optional)
