Dacron fishing line that has excellent knot strength, is exceptionally strong and does not stretch under strain. In addition, the line is far more resistant to the effects of sun and salt water that deteriorate monofilament and rust stranded wire line. Because of the line's durability and resistance to abrasion, it has the capability to be reused a number of times in certain types of commercial and sport fishing.
Sport Fishing
In contrast to pliable monofilament, Dacron line offers one-to-one direct pull. Setting up a big game reel with Dacron affords fisherman added strength to slow a marlin or sailfish before it spools the reel. In deep water situations, monofilament line stretches when you retrieve fish from extreme depths, putting excessive pressure on a reel spool. Dacron affords faster retrieval, and provides a cushion that prevents the spool from collapsing.
Jack Pole Fishing
Dacron is the most effective line for jack pole fishing. When tuna strike a feather jig, fishermen hoist the catch overhead and into a hold, and then immediately return the jig for another fish. Dacron line affords instant retrieval of tuna, and you can replace it with heavier test when bigger fish move into the area.
LonglIne Fishing and Trolling
Because of its durability, heavy-test Dacron is the primary long line for commercial fishing. Wire leaders with baited hooks are attached to loops in the line, and motorized wenches retrieve the catches. Commercial fishermen employ Dacron line when trolling for billfish and shark. Fishermen attach stranded wire leaders with circle hooks to the lines with stainless steel or brass couplings, and hauled catches aboard by hand. The strength of Dacron line out performs similar test monofilament in commercial trolling applications.
Tying Knots
Dacron fishing line is better for tying knots. Commercial fishermen thread the line around metal frames to attach netting, and then cut shorter strands and tie pieces of bait to the net when fishing crayfish and crab. Monofilament line has poor knot strength, and a low resistance to abrasion. Dacron line makes secure knots, and does not require replacement as often as other types of fishing line.
The Equipment Locker
Dacron fishing line holds many times its test strength, and will not fray or rot like monofilament. A spool of Dacron in the boat locker or tackle box is a versatile accessory, as well as a reliable line for many fishing applications.
