The skin has tiny holes in it called pores which connect to oil glands and help keep your skin moisturized. Sometimes the pores can become clogged with excess oil, which can lead to pimples. To clean your pores at home, steam the skin on your face to open the pores and then apply a bentonite clay mask, which helps to draw out impurities from deep within the skin and unclog the pores. Doing this once a week will help keep your pores clean and prevent acne breakouts.

Step 1

Heat a large pot of water to boiling on the stove.

Step 2

Mix 3 tbsp. of bentonite clay in a small bowl with enough warm water to make a thick paste. Cover and set aside.

Step 3

Remove the pot from the stove once the water has started to boil and place it on a countertop or table where you can stand or sit comfortably.

Step 4

Lower your face about 12 inches above the pot and drape the towel over your head so that the edges of the towel fall around the sides of the pot, creating a tent.

Step 5

Sit or stand over the pot for five to 10 minutes, allowing the steam to float up into your face and open your pores.

Step 6

Pat your skin dry with the towel and immediately apply the bentonite clay paste to your skin in a 1/8-inch-thick layer.

Step 7

Allow the clay to dry thoroughly on your skin for 15 to 30 minutes. You will feel a tightening and tingling sensation as it dries.

Step 8

Rinse the clay from your skin with warm water, and finish by splashing your face with cool water to close the pores.
