Perspiring is a natural way for your body to cool itself off. This is evidenced when you exercise and your body's internal temperature gets elevated. But for some people, sweating takes place more often than just while exercising, especially under the arms. When this takes place, it can be hard on your personal and professional life, but there is no need to worry. There are various ways to reduce underarm perspiration, and in some cases stop it altogether.
Step 1
Use an antiperspirant. Deodorants are designed to take away underarm odor, but they do little when it comes to perspiration. To reduce underarm moisture, use an antiperspirant with aluminum chloride.
Step 2
Get a prescription from your doctor. If your antiperspirant is not effective enough, see your doctor about getting a different formula. He can prescribe one that has a higher content of aluminum chloride.
Step 3
Use talcum powder in conjunction with your antiperspirant to get added wetness protection and reduce the amount of bacteria that can appear under your arms.
Step 4
Do some relaxation activities. Stress plays a big role in underarm wetness. When you get stressed out or angry, your internal temperature can go up and cause your underarms to sweat. Partake in some relaxation activities, such as yoga, tai chi, meditative breathing and muscle relaxation.
Step 5
Get a procedure done. Iontophorisis is a procedure where a low current of electricity is sent through the skin to the area where the sweat glands are located. The nerves are weakened, and the glands stop producing sweat.
Step 6
Get an operation. If all other treatments fail, you can have surgery. One type of surgery, called resection, involves the complete removal of the sweat glands. In another type of surgery, called endoscopic thoracic sympathectomy, nerves that produce signals to the sweat glands are removed.
